CULTURE NEWS

  • Actress Gina Gershon will discuss her memoir AlphaPussy with memoirist Alisyn Camerota at the Westport Library’s VersoFest on Saturday, March 28, at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $35 and include a copy of the memoir.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Staples High School set a new record with 69 student musicians chosen for the CMEA Western Region Music Festival. About 500 students from Fairfield County will rehearse before performing on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Wilton High School.  Westport Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut state officials are considering using funds from a $332 million rainy day fund to support mental health services and food assistance programs after federal cuts removed over $10 million in grants, and new work requirements risk SNAP benefits for over 36,000 people starting Feb. 4.  WFSB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials report flu cases have surged in Connecticut, overwhelming emergency rooms and prompting doctors to urge healthy patients to try telehealth and walk-in clinics for mild symptoms. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A holding company controlled by developer Joseph Feinleib plans to build 30 residential units on the former Connecticut Humane Society site in Westport with 25 apartments + 5 townhouses, including six affordable units. Officials will review plans on Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m.  06880

  • The UConn men’s basketball team beat Seton Hall 69-64 on Jan. 13 at the Prudential Center in Newark. They struggled with full-court pressure but maintained their lead for a hard-earned win.  The Hour
  • Notre Dame-West Haven beat Xavier 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the Edward L. Bennett Rink—ending a month-long win drought as Coach Vieira highlighted the team's steady play for upcoming state matchups.  CTPost
