  • The League of Women Voters hosts free Pie & Politics with state officials Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. while RTM committees meet on Zoom Feb. 4 for local health and environment talks and both Finalmente Ristorante and Dandelion offer prix fixe menus on Sunday and Valentine’s Day, respectively.  06880
  • Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit partnering with the library, celebrates its 5th anniversary with raffle tickets and merchandise available until Wed, Jan. 28 to support its work with adults with disabilities—raising funds for the library. The shop is across Jesup Green and features rotating art exhibits by Miggs Burroughs.  06880
  • Emergency experts advise residents to insulate pipes and use safe methods—like a blow dryer or heated towels—to thaw frozen pipes amid a cold snap. This follows Tuesday’s incident in New Milford that displaced three residents after an unsafe thawing attempt.  CTPost

  • Westport officials approved a $275K buyout for Hook’d on the Sound’s lease at 60 Compo Beach Road, covering equipment upgrades and lost revenue (Parks and Recreation Director Erik Barbieri). The town will soon request proposals for a new concessionaire.  CTPost
  • The IRS tax season begins Monday, Jan. 26 with changes that remove Direct File while keeping Free File for incomes up to $89,000. On Jan. 28 in Greenwich, an interactive session on qualified charitable distributions is held (5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.).  CTPost

  • The estate at 92 Beachside Ave. in Westport (once home to race car driver Briggs Cunningham) is listed for $19.8M with an accepted offer. Built in 1926, the 9,995-sqft home has eight bedrooms, a study made from an English ship, and rests on 3.55 acres with 200+ feet of waterfront.  CTPost

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn women's basketball won 83-42 against Georgetown on Thursday, Jan. 22 at CareFirst Arena with Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd leading their 36th consecutive victory. The Huskies will travel to New Jersey for a game at Seton Hall on Saturday after spending Thursday night in Washington, D.C.  CTPost
