  • Marc Lasry bought a Westport lot at 109 Morningside Drive South for $7 million; he said there is no rush to build homes on the property. Also, Friends of Sherwood Island State Park hold a free outdoor session on Valentine’s Day and VFW Post 399 hosts Jazz at the Post.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dave Matthews Band will perform on July 25 at The Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford during its summer tour. Ticket presale began Tuesday at 9 a.m. with general sales starting Feb. 20 + the tour runs from New York to Washington State.  WFSB
  • A 10-year-old from Ridgefield is living her Broadway dream with Stranger Things: The First Shadow at Marquis Theatre, performing as Alice Creel. The six-month contract began in October and she hopes for a renewal to continue growing her talent.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DOT crews and contractors continue clearing roads after a storm dropped 20 inches of snow. Metro-North resumed regular service yesterday, and officials said more teams will be ready if another storm hits this weekend.  CTPost
  • Experts say Connecticut trees will not explode in the cold despite viral videos. They explained that frost cracking may cause small cracks when trees warm up, but trees are safe today due to natural defenses (like built-in antifreeze) and the true risk comes only from added ice weight.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After losing her re-election as 2nd selectperson three months ago, Andrea Moore, a longtime local leader, will join the Westport Downtown Association board to support local businesses and community events.  06880
  • Grocery store meals are taxed at 7.35% after lawmakers raised the rate from 6.35% in 2019 for ready-to-eat foods — sold at snack bars and food courts. Revenue is deposited in the general fund while some groups plan to redirect funds to tourism and arts in the coming session.  The Hour

  • Local drivers may notice their cars shaking after snow builds up in wheel spokes from this weekend’s heavy snowfall; an AAA expert advises using a snow brush to clear the buildup and restore balance.  CTPost
