BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stop & Shop lowered its everyday chicken prices in stores across CT, NY — including our Westport location — with reductions on wings, tenders and drums announced on Feb. 2 to help customers save for Super Bowl snacks.  WFSB
  • Sprouts, an organic grocery chain from Arizona, plans to open its first Connecticut store in Westport pending approval from the town's Planning and Zoning Commission on Post Road East. The 25,000 sqft project will relocate an existing pizza parlor and liquor store within the building.  The Hour

CULTURE NEWS

  • Suzanne Wilson worked at Famous Artists School on Wilton Road between 1969 and 1972 and recalled how hands-on teaching and social gatherings fostered a unique local art community in Westport.  06880
  • At Westport Library’s VersoFest on Saturday, March 28, Cumbe Dance will lead a free Congolese dance workshop at 10 a.m. in the Trefz Forum + later that day, David J will read from his new poetry book and perform an acoustic set in the same venue.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The school board may use $750,000 from a health insurance reserve to lower its 2026-27 operating budget increase to 4.9 percent. Members also discussed using $810,000 from ending energy efficiency payments to help cover a future budget gap.  Westport Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers will start the legislative session at the Capitol tomorrow, centering on proposals to protect children by limiting social media use and reducing cell phone distractions in schools. The measures are designed to guard minors against harmful algorithms+ improve focus in the classroom.  WFSB

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn women’s basketball will face DePaul tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Wintrust Arena in Chicago—boosting a 23-0 overall and 12-0 Big East record as the Huskies aim to maintain their strong season performance.  The Hour
  • UConn is expected to remain number one in the AP Top 25 following a 96 to 66 win over Tennessee on Sunday, with Azzi Fudd scoring 27 and Sarah Strong adding 26. The Huskies will face DePaul in Chicago on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on truTV+ drawing local fans+.  WFSB
