  • Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti and her mother Linda will perform a cabaret show at Westport Country Playhouse on Saturday, Feb. 28, featuring musical duets and a three-piece band that highlight their unique mother-daughter bond.  CTPost

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Westport board of education approved a $157.8M budget for 2026–27 that uses a health insurance reserve to keep the increase at 4.98 percent. The plan adds new facilities, security and behavioral specialist roles and a $95K sports uniform budget before moving to Finance and then the Representative Town Meeting.  Westport Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sustainable Westport launched UnPlastic Westport last month to cut single-use plastics by expanding water-filling stations, and this month the project highlights bathrooms as residents are urged to swap plastic items with eco-friendly choices like bar soap & bamboo toothbrushes.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Lamont has revived a legislative effort to cap rent hikes by new landlords after they buy apartment buildings; if passed, fair rent commissions will limit increases to 5% plus inflation starting in October. The bill is under review by a Joint Committee on Housing.  CTPost

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lawmakers and caregivers reported a repeal linked to campaign donations removed staffing rules in nursing homes, leaving 90% of beds occupied and raising future shortage concerns. Sen. Blumenthal will propose minimum staffing legislation as an aging population may create a 3,000-bed gap by 2035.  CTPost

  • In January, a deep freeze cut CT home listings and sales fell 13% statewide while buyers kept prices above asking + Westport saw a notable sale at 260 Hillspoint Road amid intense local competition.  CTPost

SPORTS NEWS

  • Silas Demary Jr. scored 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists as UConn lost 81-72 to St. John’s at Madison Square Garden on Friday, with nine costly turnovers. Coach Hurley said the matchup revealed weaknesses ahead of the Feb. 25 rematch in Hartford.  The Hour
