CULTURE NEWS

  • Gaetano's Deli moved to a new spot on Barnum Avenue after Chowhound named it Connecticut's top hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop. The award-winning deli is known for its Italian paninis and fun menu names and also operates in Westport and Shelton.  CTPost

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new state report shows that Connecticut is behind on its plan to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Officials and experts (including Gov. Lamont) say faster adoption of clean technology in transportation and industry is needed to meet aggressive targets.  CTPost

FINANCE NEWS

  • A WalletHub survey released Tuesday reported that Connecticut ranks third nationwide in property taxes—median real estate tax is $6,643 compared with $6,024 nationally—impacting housing costs for residents, including in Westport.  WFSB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A report by Rebuild By Design showed Connecticut received over $564M in federal funds for 11 disasters from 2011 to 2024 + including floods and brush fires in 2024. New Haven and Fairfield counties topped the totals, and officials said timely investments reduced future risks.  The Hour
  • The Better Business Bureau reported that CT residents received about two dozen scam calls from individuals posing as IRS representatives and tax consultants on Feb. 17, urging locals to file taxes early and verify contact details independently.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA issued a Class II recall on Feb. 12 for over 22,000 units of Ventura Foods peanut butter after blue plastic fragments were found during production. Affected single-serve packs were distributed in Connecticut and 39 other states.  CT Insider

SPORTS NEWS

  • Connecticut native Mac Forehand won a silver medal in men's Big Air freestyle skiing on Tuesday at the Winter Olympics, becoming the first Connecticut-born athlete to medal; he posted three high-scoring runs at Livigno — Italy.  The Hour
  • UConn women’s basketball faces Villanova today at 7 p.m. in Finneran Pavilion in Pa to clinch its 25th Big East season title; the Huskies ride a 43 straight win streak + expect standout plays from Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong.  The Hour
