CULTURE NEWS

  • Today VersoFest kicks off with a concert by The Thing in Westport while later events include an interactive exhibition at the Westport Library from March 20 and a book discussion with Claire Dederer at the Trefz Forum on March 28; exhibitions remain open until April 5.  Westport Journal
  • Next Thursday, Mar. 5 at 7 p.m., Ukrainian pianist Ruslan Ramazanoy and soprano Teryn Kuzma will perform 'Keys of Resilience' at Westport Country Playhouse to raise funds for Ukrainian communities — including Westport’s sister city, Lyman.  06880
  • Lauren Tarshis – best-selling author of the I Survived series – will sign books and chat with readers at Westport Library on March 15 at 3 p.m. The fundraiser supports Westport Book Shop with children’s $10 and adult $5 tickets and includes an I Survived trivia contest.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Connecticut lawmakers will phase out waivers that allow 4-year-olds to attend kindergarten early. Districts may offer waivers for one more year, but the ban takes full effect by fall 2027 when the new Sept. 1 cut-off applies.  News 12 Connecticut

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Connecticut home sales dropped 6.4% in January, with median prices rising 0.9% to $396,800 as harsh winter weather slowed buyer activity. Local brokers expect more listings next month — a sign of a strong spring market.  WFSB

  • With March Madness approaching, Westport’s Rec Basketball season will conclude in early March with championship tournaments and post-game pizza parties at local gyms. Volunteer coach Lee Shufro, who has built the program since 2020, says the final events celebrate community spirit and fair play among youth athletes.  06880
