ECONOMY NEWS

  • Experts say the war in Iran will push gas prices higher for Westport drivers, with rates expected to jump up to 8 cents per gallon in the coming weeks + no supply shortages are anticipated based on current trends.  WFSB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Superintendent Scarice revised the Staples calendar after four snow days, setting student dismissal to June 23 and warning spring break from April 13 may shorten with more closures. The board approved a $695,000 duress system contract — install by September — and accepted a $3,275 PTA gift for seating.  Westport Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Westport Transit District today launched a Wheels2U '10-for-9' pass offering ten rides for $18 (available through Apr. 30) that gives riders a cost-effective alternative to daily parking and door-to-platform convenience.  Westport Journal
  • Lawmakers are holding a public hearing today at 1 p.m. at the state Capitol to debate a bill that would require school districts to notify the state within two days when a child is withdrawn, following two homeschooling neglect cases + aiming to boost accountability.  WFSB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Photographer Dave Matlow updated his Homes of 06880 series by photographing four Westport homes on Darbrook, Deerwood, Burnham Hill and Blue Ribbon drives; he captured the new images in February to show the changes from archival photos taken between 2005 and 2020.  06880

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn moved up two spots on Monday in the AP poll after a strong win over Seton Hall that lifted their record to 27-3. The Huskies prepare for their final conference game in Milwaukee on Saturday – Big East tie-breakers may affect their ranking.  WFSB
  • UConn Women’s Basketball — undefeated and defending champions — secured an 85–49 win against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden in their first stand-alone women’s game, preserving a perfect 31–0 record. They will carry their momentum into the Women’s Big East Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena starting Friday, Mar. 6.  WFSB
