  • Today, online registration begins for Camp Compo and RECing Crew; other Parks and Rec programs open tomorrow. The Board will review the annual closure of Church Lane for outdoor dining—music on Fridays and Saturdays—while a March 20 memorial honors Deej Webb.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • Staples Players released a recorded look back at its spring 2003 production, 'Merrily We Roll Along,' this week. The group announces its new spring show, 'Urinetown' (Thursday, Mar. 12, 7 p.m.), with additional performances Friday and Saturday (7 p.m.) and Saturday and Sunday (2 p.m.).  06880

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jocelyn Cutie, a lifelong non-speaker with autism and apraxia, is now using a spelling board at Mouth to Hand Learning Center to take college courses and advocate for non-speakers through panels and her blog. Her progress highlights improved methods of communication and community support in Westport.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tax rules change amid staff cuts as free electronic filing replaces paper returns; residents can file for federal taxes through eight online partners if they earn less than $89,000 and use Connecticut’s free state filing service. Tax clinic director Sara Spodick advises filing accurately to avoid long error resolution delays.  WFSB
  • Connecticut lawmakers are reviewing a bill that will require grocery stores with self-checkout lanes to keep one staffed manual lane open for every two machines, assign one employee per two stations, and limit self-checkouts to eight (to help support workers) (bill under review).  WFSB

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UConn men will seek a rebound from their loss to Marquette as they compete in the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden. They will face the winner of the Marquette and Xavier game Wednesday evening.  WFSB
