  • The Board of Selectmen approved closing Church Lane from May 8 to Oct 1 for outdoor dining and a music series, and town roads will close for summer races including the Memorial Day Parade on May 25 (with additional Road Runners races starting June 27) to invite visitors downtown.  Westport Journal

  • This week, 06880 revisits Staples Players' 2003 production of Oliver recorded by former media teacher Jim Honeycutt, highlighting director David Roth's work and offering Westport residents a nostalgic glimpse of a memorable stage event.  06880

  • Alex Giannini, director of programs and events at the Westport Library, recently hosted a podcast session providing behind-the-scenes details of this year’s Verso Fest (a music, media and more festival). The interview explained how talent is selected and schedules are balanced to engage the audience.  06880
  • The Norwalk Film Festival will show the East Coast premiere of Power Ballad, starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, at District Music Hall at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 21. It will also have a national release by Lionsgate on June 5.  Westport Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • With planting season approaching, Connecticut farmers are facing a nitrogen fertilizer shortage caused by the war in Iran — the shortfall may lead to lower crop yields and higher grocery prices as early as this summer or fall.  WFSB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Education Committee votes today on a bill that would tighten homeschooling rules by requiring parents to register children yearly and alert DCF when kids leave school, with parents in open DCF cases barred from homeschooling. Supporters point to past cases; many parents oppose the changes.  WFSB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Parks and Recreation Department will sell beach parking emblems to Westport and Weston residents tomorrow (Mar. 19) at 9 a.m. with no purchase limit, while non-residents can buy them today for $545 plus sales tax; emblems will be mailed within 14 to 21 days.  06880
