COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The former poorhouse on Compo Road North has been renovated and will open early next month as Susie’s House, providing six young women—homeless or at risk—with their first stable housing including private rooms, bathrooms and full support services. Town officials and community groups will tour the space on Wednesday and Thursday as the program helps the residents acquire skills for self-sufficiency.  06880

CRIME NEWS

  • Danielle Taylor, 33, from Philadelphia was charged on March 11 with larceny, identity theft, payment card theft, and related conspiracy offenses after video evidence tied her to a 2020 theft at Panera on Post Road East where a customer's credit card was taken and later used at a nearby Stop and Shop—she turned herself in and posted $35,000 bond ahead of her arraignment scheduled for April 1.  Westport Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut lawmakers aim to lower preschool costs by offering free care for families earning $100,000 or less and a maximum daily fee of $20 for those earning up to $150,000 — they meet at the lob at 10 a.m. today to vote on Senate Bill 1 funded by $300 million from the governor’s budget proposal.  WFSB

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UConn men’s hockey team will make its first appearance in the College Hockey NCAA Tournament Friday at 5 p.m. in Allentown when it faces Quinnipiac. The Huskies had beaten Quinnipiac earlier this season (a 2-1 win with a last-second goal by Ryan Tattle) and will look to build on that result.  WFSB
