BUSINESS NEWS

  • Electric Boat announced plans on March 23 to hire about 8,000 employees in 2026– new hires will fill roles in operations, engineering, and support at its Groton, Quonset Point, and New London sites amid rising demand for submarines.  The Hour

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kesha and Erika Jayne will perform at Mohegan Sun Arena on Aug. 22 as part of the Freedom Tour; presale tickets are available for Citi card members while general tickets go on sale on March 27 (10 a.m.).  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Westport Board of Education will vote on a revised 2026-27 school calendar at its April 2 meeting — one plan starts school Aug. 25 and ends on June 18, adjusts for up to nine snow days, and preserves April vacation unless extreme weather forces a change.  Westport Journal
  • Westport school board members debated the necessity of several student surveys at a meeting and will review a revised school climate survey (for grades 3 to 12) updated with staff and student feedback; they also unanimously approved the annual post-high school survey to assist college planning.  Westport Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pfizer announced Monday that it would seek FDA approval for its Lyme vaccine after a Phase 3 trial in the U.S. + Canada + Europe showed over 70% efficacy. The announcement comes as a tick report confirms a surge in Lyme ticks and Lone Star tick populations along Connecticut’s shoreline.  The Hour
  • The Public Health Committee advanced a revised bill on Monday, March 24 that would require heart health screenings for all high school athletes and could add EKG tests+ the measure aims to prevent sudden heart problems. If passed, it takes effect for the 2027-28 school year.  The Hour

SPORTS NEWS

  • New Canaan boys ice hockey won the CIAC Division I Championship with a 3 to 1 victory over Fairfield Prep at Quinnipiac’s M&T Bank Arena in Hamden on March 23. Senior Rogan Lowe led the team with key assists and an empty-net goal to end a 54-year drought.  The Hour
  • The UConn women advanced to the Sweet 16 after a dominant win against Syracuse and will face No. 4 seed UNC in a regional semifinal at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth at 5 p.m. ET Friday—led by Azzi Fudd’s standout 34‑point performance.  The Hour
  • UConn Huskies, led by Azzi Fudd’s career-high 34 points, defeated Syracuse 98-45 on Monday. The win advanced them to their 32nd straight Sweet 16 and set them up to face North Carolina Friday in Fort Worth — extending their winning streak to 52 games.  The Hour
