  • A new concessionaire for Compo Beach will be chosen next week, Staples High School honored 19 high achieving students, and VersoFest ’26 opened with a sneaker art talk while the former Black Rock restaurant may become a nature preserve — Sea Street Quartet debuts Sunday at United Methodist Church.  06880
  • SEA is urging 150 locals to pledge $125 each month at Old Mill Grocery & Deli to secure the long-term future of the 107-year-old community spot. The non-profit aims to boost off-season sales while preserving an important cultural resource in Westport.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Pequot Library book sale, teenager Morgan Kofron bought an old Bible that was identified as a lost heirloom of the Adair family (a prominent Black landowning family in Westport). It will soon join the Westport Museum’s collection and be featured in a June exhibition on the Great Migration.  Westport Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Connecticut increased by $1.02 to $3.93 per gallon on Thursday, according to AAA, and fuel dealers warn that consumption may drop if prices exceed $4.00. Consumers are advised to shop around for the best value as costs continue to rise.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wood frogs in Connecticut thaw after winter freezing and begin migrating to vernal pools for breeding this spring; officials advise drivers to use extra caution on wet, wooded roads to protect these unique amphibians whose calls sound like quacking ducks.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting April 1, the town will bar dogs from Compo, Old Mill and Burying Hill beaches until Oct. 1, though pets on leashes can join boaters at Ned Dimes Marina. Dog lovers can still visit Winslow Park and other areas where dogs may run free.  Westport Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent harsh winter temperatures led to eight weather-related deaths among people without homes, including individuals in Bristol and Bolton, and state legislators are proposing S.B. 364 to establish clear cold emergency protocols to better protect those at risk.  The Hour

  • UConn coach Dan Hurley discussed changing recruiting trends in Washington on Thursday — the Huskies, now 31-5, will face Michigan State today in the Sweet 16 as they chase a Final Four spot.  The Hour
