COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, nine Rotary Club members cleaned up the Sherwood Island Connector parking lot + nearby areas by collecting 25 bags of trash. Their effort supports ongoing spring cleaning across town.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Board of Selectmen approved a $1.6 million sidewalk project on Compo Road South with contractor G. Pic & Sons Construction Co. The new sidewalk, spanning 1.3 miles from just south of Post Road East to Bridge Street, will begin in about one month and run for 180 days.  Westport Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • CT Insider beat reporter Maggie Vanoni answered reader questions on March 27 about UConn women's basketball, including the team’s rest days as the top seed, roster changes, and injured players (she outlined coaching adjustments for upcoming games).  The Hour
  • CT boys basketball players will face Massachusetts in the inaugural Thank You Basketball All-Star Game today at 6 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe, with a Rising Stars contest at 4 p.m. and the JCC Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Classic at Staples later that afternoon (tickets are $15 online).  The Hour
  • UConn women’s basketball broke its NCAA single-season assists record by reaching 864 in a Sweet Sixteen game against North Carolina on Friday, Mar. 27 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Coach Geno Auriemma credited the team’s passing style as key to the achievement.  The Hour
  • UConn assistant coach Luke Murray was hired by Boston College as its next head coach after he helped lead the Huskies’ top-ranked offense — Coach Dan Hurley praised Murray on social media and said he would remain with UConn until the tournament run was over.  The Hour
  • The Connecticut Sun have reached a tentative deal to be sold for $300 million to Houston Rockets owner (pending league approval) and may relocate to Houston in 2027, but they will play the 2026 season at Mohegan Sun Arena. League officials expect near-certain approval as negotiations continue.  The Hour
  • UConn's women played UNC in the Sweet 16 on Friday at 5 p.m. in Fort Worth; coming off an undefeated regular season, coach Geno Auriemma aimed to avoid past tournament slipups and solidify the team's dominance.  The Hour
