  • Sustainable Westport will screen 'Plastic People: The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics' Thursday, Apr. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Greens Farms Academy with a panel discussion to follow. The Board of Finance will hold open office hours on Apr. 16 at the Westport Library’s Room 213.  06880
  • Jack Thompson, a junior from Greens Farms Academy, led the Youth Commission's conversation forum with first selectman candidates after gaining valuable experience from regular meetings (his journey shows the impact of early involvement). Applications for the 2026-27 board are open until May 1.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • The online art gallery features bright exhibits celebrating Easter and spring by showcasing oil canvases, watercolors, and digital art for free viewing. Locals can join next week’s exhibition by emailing their submissions—include the medium of work.  06880

FINANCE NEWS

  • WalletHub released its list earlier this week showing that Connecticut ranked 27th in financial literacy, with the state earning low marks in consumer survey scores but high marks in credit scores — a signal that financial planning and education need to join forces.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General William Tong spoke on Thursday at the Westport Library as part of the Your State – Your Business series, explaining data privacy and civil law issues while taking audience questions. Governor Ned Lamont will speak at the final session on Monday, April 13 at 11 a.m.  Westport Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Hartford Wolf Pack lost 4-2 to the Bridgeport Islanders Friday night at Total Mortgage Arena, dropping their fifth straight game. They trailed early and, despite a late rally, could not overcome the Islanders.  WFSB
  • On Friday, April 3, UConn’s women’s basketball team lost 62-48 to South Carolina in the Final Four in Phoenix, where players showed visible emotion and some took a quiet moment in the bathroom after ending a 420-day win streak.  The Hour
  • The UConn Huskies defeated Illinois by a score of 71 to 62 in a national semifinal at Lucas Oil Stadium (in Indianapolis) on Saturday, Apr. 4 and will face either Michigan or Arizona in the championship game on Monday.  The Hour
  • UConn star Sarah Strong was named the 2026 Katrina McClain Award recipient on April 4. She is the second Husky to win the honor after Napheesa Collier in 2019 and also earned several National Player of the Year awards this week in Phoenix.  The Hour
