  • Lloyd Allen turned 75 yesterday at Double L Market, where he shared memories of his original farm stand and plans to workshop a new play (featuring a stage of giant iPhones) with local support. He also highlighted early spring produce as a sign of his strong community ties.  06880

  • Corky Laing, who once called Westport home, will guest drum with Gary Shure’s 10$GrandBand at the VFW on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 7 p.m.—the set will feature classic Mountain hits like Mississippi Queen and tickets are $20.  06880

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Connecticut’s Education Cost Sharing grant—known as ECS—is now fully funding public school districts by supplying $2.46 billion in its first full year, fulfilling a phased schedule advanced from 2028 to 2026. Education advocates caution that the unchanged per-student rate since 2013 may strain local taxpayers if adjustments are not made.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Richard Blumenthal held a news conference Monday, Apr. 6 at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford calling for a federal antitrust investigation into the Connecticut Sun sale, noting the deal was $25 million lower than a local bid; he will propose a bill giving local communities first purchase rights.  WFSB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut scientists at the Agricultural Experiment Station warned on Monday that tick activity is up, with nearly 40% of blacklegged ticks testing positive for Lyme and other diseases (notably in coastal areas like Fairfield and New Haven counties) and urged residents to use repellents and perform routine tick checks.  WFSB

  • UConn women’s basketball is ranked No. 1 in the early 2026-27 top 25 after their Final Four loss on Apr. 3 at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix; Fairfield grabbed No. 25 among top teams like Texas & South Carolina.  The Hour
