  • Today, Westport celebrates the Great Sandwich Contest winners and announces Earthplace's Clams & Cocktails fundraiser on June 6 at Copps Island to upgrade Harbor Watch. The Senior Center will host Melissa Bernstein for Mental Health Awareness Month on May 1, and the Town Board approved new ADA water filling stations.  06880
  • Cooper Shapiro, a fourth grader from Long Lots Elementary, has launched Coop's Canteen, a pop-up snack stand serving Westport Little League players and families. He uses AI for pricing and inventory and offers snacks on Saturdays at Town Farm fields (or at Coleytown Elementary when his brother plays).  06880

  • Tori and Ken Pond plan to move Craft and Sprout Coops to a 4,000 sqft building on 5 Van Tassel Court if Norwalk approves a special permit at a May 5 hearing. The new space will boost production and kit shipments for local families interested in backyard chickens.  The Hour

  • Westport resident Craig Melvin revealed on Wednesday during the Today show that Jenna Bush Hager will appear in Devil Wears Prada 2, which stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, though her role remains undisclosed.  The Hour

  • Connecticut deer ticks are testing positive for Lyme disease above 40% early in the season. Health officials advise extra care outdoors to reduce exposure risks.  CTPost
  • Connecticut lawmakers approved a bill on Wednesday to expand a psilocybin mushroom program that treats 20 veterans for PTSD at Yale (the program will now include first responders, EMTs, and healthcare workers) and it is set to move to the House next.  WFSB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Staples boys basketball head coach David Goldshore resigned on Wednesday after leading his team to consecutive FCIAC championships and a Division I final that went triple overtime. He announced his decision on Instagram, ending a four-season tenure.  The Hour
  • UConn men’s basketball stands out in recent tournaments even though it sometimes trails top programs in NCAA Tournament berths. Coach Dan Hurley said the Huskies reached three of the last four national title games (winning six championships) and ranked high in Elite 8 and Final Four appearances.  The Hour
  • Darien girls lacrosse defeated national No. 1 St. Anthony’s, ending a 50-game win streak when Quin Chandler scored the overtime winning goal for a 10-9 victory on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at Darien (a historic upset).  The Hour
