FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ April is financial literacy month, and Mike Chadwick of Fiscal Wisdom Wealth Management advises Westport residents to track income and spending to find ways to save. Chadwick said careful budgeting (such as opening a high-yield savings account) may help families build long-term financial stability. WFSB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Westport has set up a new Fair Rent Commission to help tenants contest unfair rent increases, unsafe conditions, and extra fees, with five members appointed by First Selectwoman Jen Tooker. The board—led by administrator Michele Onofrio—was formed after a state law change now requires such commissions in communities with over 25,000 residents and no complaints have been filed yet. 06880
- ➤ The judiciary committee finished its final hearing today on a bill to limit police from handcuffing children under 14—allowing officers to use them only when safety demands. The committee also approved tougher penalties for reckless driving over 100 mph and increased punishments for street takeovers ahead of the general assembly’s vote. WFSB
