CULTURE NEWS

  • Vanessa Collier, a soulful blues saxophonist and vocalist, will perform at the Westport Library (6 p.m.) on Saturday, May 2. She is on her Keep It Saxy Tour and has been nominated in three Blues Music Awards categories.  Westport Journal
  • Westport resident Michael Bolton, a platinum and Grammy-winning singer, will be inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame on April 24 at 7 p.m. in Milford at Veterans Memorial Auditorium + the benefit concert supports local veterans and a community food pantry.  Westport Journal
  • Sushi Jin in Westport, now celebrating its first year, offers a diverse menu of sushi, sashimi, hibachi, and dim sum on Elm Street (just off Main Street near Serena and Lily) and welcomes diners for family lunches and cozy date nights in a warm setting.  The Hour
  • A nonprofit from Fairfield will present Fighting Antisemitism and Celebrating Community plus local activist Jim Naughton will host the free talk at Westport Library on Sunday, April 12. Originally postponed from January due to snow, the event offers a first look at the landmark Shoah Memorial project.  Westport Journal
  • The Westport Book Shop is showcasing local abstract painter Karen Schlansky’s Books series until Apr. 30. A reception will be held on Thursday, Apr. 23 (6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) at Drew Friedman Art Place.  Westport Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sustainable Westport and Earthplace will host a free mattress recycling event on Saturday, May 2, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Earthplace, 10 Woodside Ln in Westport. Participants must bring dry, unsoiled items only, and Boy Scout Troop 36 will pick up items for a small donation.  Westport Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Westport native Caroline Lau, who led the nation in assists, wrapped up her Northwestern career on Senior Day, March 1 at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston—facing a 67-62 loss to Purdue. Lau said she is grateful for the support of teammates and retiring coach Joe McKeown.  The Hour
