Good morning, Westport. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 12th of April.
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday night, more than 2 dozen residents attended a town hall meeting as the Planning & Zoning Commission and the Long Lots School Building Committee discussed plans for a new 127,000-square foot, $100 million school to be built near the current upper baseball diamond. The design features New England style peaked roofs, a stream by the entrance, and a courtyard for outdoor classes but lacks a garden site—this may delay approval. 06880
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Westport officials will hold a public forum at Town Hall auditorium (110 Myrtle Ave.) on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. to gather feedback on a new parks master plan that will not include Longshore Club Park (because a separate plan is underway) and will lead to more meetings this summer and fall. Westport Journal
- ➤ Connecticut's Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas warned that the SAVE Act — which would require proof of citizenship and in-person registration — could create chaos in the state because local IDs do not list citizenship and many citizens may lack the additional documents. The bill passed the House and now heads to the Senate, where it will face further challenges. News 12 Connecticut
- ➤ State work cleared dozens of trees near the DOT maintenance facility behind Walgreens on the Sherwood Island Connector and residents along Hillandale Road worry about noise as Lighthouse Living began its redesigned apartment project on Post Road West with occupancy expected in about one year; land for Summit Saugatuck’s 157-unit housing project on Hiawatha Lane Extension was clear-cut yesterday — planning meetings for other projects are set soon. 06880
