CULTURE NEWS

  • The beloved Circle of Peace bronze sculpture of dancing children, created by Gary Lee Price, will soon return to Westport to stand at the library thanks to an anonymous donor — town officials say it will be maintained for five years before moving to a riverwalk.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State lawmakers dropped plans for free school lunches on Monday and instead backed Gov. Lamont's proposal to fund a $12 million universal breakfast program (free lunches will still be available for lower-income students). The change comes amid budget concerns over an extra $64 million cost.  News 12 Connecticut

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Westport Weston Family YMCA and DEEP will release between 500 and 1,000 river herring into Lees Pond; the restocking supports Camp Mahackeno's catch-and-release fishing program (helping students learn about the local food chain) and boosts water quality.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials say tax refunds will total $2.1 billion by June 30 due to federal changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, boosting income and pass-through entity tax refunds and potentially lowering revenues by more than $180 million. Updated revenue estimates will be released two weeks after the April 30 tax deadline.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers warn that tick season has started early in Connecticut with over 150 submissions received by Tuesday and many ticks carrying Lyme disease, so health officials advise residents to wear long sleeves and use repellent when outdoors in Westport (coastal areas report higher invasive tick numbers).  WFSB
