  • Governor Lamont spoke to residents at Westport Library on local issues yesterday while CTBites named semifinalists from Westport in a contest. Later events include Hey Taco!'s opening on Post Road East, a spring book sale starting May 15 and live jazz and rock shows at the VFW on April 16–17.  06880
  • On May 12, Westport Journal will gather experts at Cedar Point Yacht Club to share summer tips and answer questions about boating, tennis, dining, and more. The free event requires registration, and wine & cheese with a cocktail will be served.  Westport Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Staples Players Rewind revisits the fall 2007 production Beauty & the Beast, directed by David Roth and Kerry Long, which featured local talent who later appeared on Broadway and TV. The retrospective highlights performers including Adam Kaplan, Hannah Dubner, Andy Friedland, and Dan Shure.  06880

  • Drivers can save money on gas by using Costco shop cards and the Upside app (which gives cash back on fuel purchases). Experts say these tips help Westport residents manage costs as gas prices in Connecticut remain over $4 a gallon.  WFSB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Connecticut Humane Society is hosting its Reading to Pets program this week during spring break, where kids from Westport and nearby areas practice reading with adoptable animals at a Wilton location. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the State Capitol on Tuesday, public health experts urged testing a law to let harm reduction centers serve as safe spaces for drug use to lower overdose risks, while Gov Lamont said current services are saving lives and he remains cautious about onsite drug use.  The Hour
  • Westport community members can apply to serve on the Cribari Bridge Advisory Committee by contacting First Selectman Kevin Christie's office to share their expertise on the historic bridge spanning the Saugatuck River. The panel will help shape town input as the DOT reviews whether to rehabilitate or replace the bridge built 142 years ago — details will be shared later.  Westport Journal

  • Westport's housing market remains strong as limited listings prompt quick sales over the asking price. A historic 7-bedroom home on Greens Farms Road is under contract for $3.75 million while buyers increasingly use a buy-first then sell strategy due to high local demand.  06880

  • Justin Thomas & Rickie Fowler have committed to play at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, scheduled for June 25-28; both will join other top golfers in drawing local fans.  The Hour
  • The Connecticut Sun drafted players including Gianna Kneepkens, Nell Angloma, and Charlisse Leger-Walker — strengthening the squad for their final season in Connecticut before moving to Houston in 2027. Training camp begins Sunday and the regular season starts May 10 when they host the Seattle Storm.  The Hour
  • New Canaan, riding three straight wins, edged Darien by one point to top the boys lacrosse poll after teams split 11 first-place votes — their tests on Thursday include Darien at Wilton at 5 p.m. and New Canaan hosting Staples at 5:30 p.m.  The Hour
