  • The Minuteman Yacht Club is celebrating 60 years by hosting social gatherings at Ned Dimes Marina in Westport, welcoming anyone regardless of boat ownership. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marty Erdheim was named winner of the Westport Library's Jackie Robinson Essay Contest on April 15 and received four tickets to a New York Mets game, while three other top writers earned additional prizes (the contest is part of the library’s Common Ground Initiative).  Westport Journal
  • 11-year-old Westport twins Lisette and Leonie Kalra created an AI website to combat loneliness after winning the state Presidential AI challenge in middle school.   • Gov. Lamont signed an executive order on Thursday, April 16 to form a Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability—tasked with reviewing school funding and suggesting at least a $100 million boost from his $500 million affordability fund.   • UConn added Najai Hines, a 6-foot-10 center from Seton Hall, to bolster its frontcourt following his campus visit on Tuesday and commitment on Wednesday night — the Huskies plan to add more post players through the transfer portal.  The Hour
  • The Staples boys lacrosse team rallied to beat top-ranked New Canaan 11-8 on Thursday, Apr. 16 in Westport, led by Hunter Pallai’s five goals and two assists as the team closed with a nine-goal second-half surge.  The Hour
  • The Connecticut Sun finalized key roster moves for their final season in Connecticut by signing Houston native Brittney Griner and adding promising draft picks through training camp contracts. The team is set to start summer training camp Sunday as it prepares for a move to Houston next year.  The Hour
