  • The Tree Board will give away free witch hazel, ninebark, and a blackgum tree this Friday behind Town Hall (110 Myrtle Ave) as part of an Arbor Day tradition. Recipients can pick up the tubelings for their gardens in a program running for over 10 years.  Westport Journal
  • Staples High School senior Jonathan Dobin-Smith shows how volunteer work with Circle of Friends brings the community together to support neurodiverse children each month – he encourages families to join before the Evening of Recognition on Sunday, May 3.  06880
  • Wakeman Town Farm (134 Cross Highway) will host its third annual Drinking with Chickens event on May 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with live music, appetizers and craft bwwaacktails plus guest appearances by the town farm’s chickens.  Westport Journal

  • 11-year-old twins Lisette and Leonie Kalra, who are homeschooled in Westport, launched Westport Smiles this January to help people connect by using AI to generate fun activity ideas from photos & prompts. They now await news on advancing to the regional stage of the Presidential AI challenge.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut public utilities regulators approved a rate decrease for Eversource and UI residential customers that will lower bills by about $30 and $34 respectively, effective May 1 through April 30 — Gov. Ned Lamont will announce the decision in a 2 p.m. press conference today at the State Capitol.  WFSB
  • Registration for the Basic Rider Course, needed to obtain a motorcycle endorsement, will open the first week in May at several CT State Community College campuses including one in Westport. The course costs $260 and provides self-guided eCourse instruction with hands-on riding practice.  The Hour
