- ➤ A child riding an electric scooter was seriously injured in a crash on Cobble Hill Road (around 6 p.m.) Wednesday night and was transported to Norwalk Hospital, while the Westport Police Accident Investigation Team (with Fairfield Police Accident Investigation Team) is investigating the cause. - ➤ Smoke from a large wildfire in New Jersey is expected to lower air quality in Westport today as state officials warn of increased fine particulate pollution. The blaze began with an unextinguished wood pallet bonfire and has burned 13,250 acres while being 50 percent contained — officials are monitoring the situation closely. CTPost
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Connecticut lawmakers advanced a new child tax credit that could lower middle-class tax bills by $450 a year by giving $150 per child for up to three children starting in 2026—funded by a 1.75% capital gains tax on millionaires until 2029; however, Gov. Ned Lamont plans to fight the tax raise. The proposal comes as part of a two-year tax package now under budget negotiations. News 12 Connecticut
- ➤ At a Tuesday meeting, residents and officials said the Hamlet at Saugatuck development’s request for 70 parking permits could reduce commuter parking at the rail station. The RTM Transit Committee will study parking capacity further and police said there is enough parking now but future needs remain unclear—prompting calls for more review. Westport Journal
