  • Westport Woman’s Club awarded $50,000 in community service grants to 19 nonprofits on April 24—groups addressing issues such as homelessness, family crises and food insecurity—and continued its annual tradition of supporting local services.  Westport Journal
  • Multiple events are shaping Westport this week: a Planning & Zoning meeting on Monday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall—where ROAN Ventures will present an amended plan for the Hamlet project—will be followed by the Conservation Commission meeting on April 30 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall and an online Flood & Erosion Control Board meeting on May 6. The Representative Town Meeting will vote on the Board of Education budget May 5 and the town budget May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, while community actions include an ice bucket challenge to raise funds for youth mental health, the final day of the Compo Beach playground rebuild, and a Clean-up Day postponed to May 3.  06880

  • Westport’s Department of Human Services is asking for donations to help pay for a 12-week summer camp that costs about $5,000 and a graduation fund for income-eligible 8th and 12th graders. SPORTS NEWS

  • Staples High boys tennis team started the season 6-0 but lost 4-3 to Greenwich on Thursday, marking its first defeat. Robert Jacob won his singles match after his opponent retired with an injury—Staples will next play Wilton on Monday and Fairfield Warde the following day at 4 p.m.  Westport Journal
  • Staples High girls golf team is ranked fourth in state after a 4-1 start that included road wins on April 9th and 10th and three home victories at Longshore Golf Course after spring break. Key medalist performances from Eliza Wadley and Rachel Pontoriero helped build strong scores — the team will host Wilton, Danbury and Ridgefield starting Monday, April 28th.  Westport Journal
