  • Staples High School's Service League of Boys volunteers, 300 strong, helped with more than 20 projects last weekend, cleaning parks, power-washing outdoor furniture for seniors, and tidying riverfront areas. President Rei Seltzer said many volunteers will soon depart and thanked the community for their efforts.  06880

  • Griswold Inn — one of America’s oldest continually operated inns — will celebrate its 250th anniversary with a Taste for History weekend June 5-7 near Essex; the historic site has hosted famous guests and preserved maritime artifacts since 1776.  WFSB
  • Doug and Patti Brill — longtime residents who have raised four children and contributed to Meals on Wheels and the YMCA — share their unique life story in the '06880' podcast for Westport listeners today.  06880
  • A colonial tavern cooking class at Tim’s Kitchen at Wakeman Town Farm offers a hands-on chance to make 18th-century dishes on Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m. Culinary expert Ramin Ganeshram will share history + participants must register early as spaces are limited at $135 per person.  Westport Journal
  • On Saturday, Apr. 25, Earthplace held its 5th annual Toast to the Trees event indoors as rain forced the celebration inside, drawing over 200 attendees who enjoyed a tasting trail featuring beers from eight local breweries and cidery selections — proceeds supported nature education programs.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last night at the Westport Library, the town commission held its 13th Annual Teen Diversity Essay Contest on the Declaration’s 250th anniversary and honored two high school winners. Staples High School junior Kaila Patel won $1,000 and sophomore Liam Harrison earned $750 for their essays on equality and civic duty.  06880

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wild turkey hunting season begins today and will run until May 30. Officials remind hunters that legal hours are one hour before sunrise to sunset and that Sunday hunts are allowed only on private land — rules apply.  News 12 Connecticut

  • Westport residents are invited to complete a two-minute online survey by WestCOG to share storm and natural hazard impacts since 2020, and their input will help shape the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan for 2026-2031.  Westport Journal
