  • Walk Bike Westport has rebranded from Bike Westport to reflect its broader mission for safer streets and better connections for walkers and bikers. The volunteer group will launch a Color Your Logo campaign and expand its team in the coming weeks to boost community engagement.  06880

BUSINESS NEWS

  • StartUp Westport's Pitch competition returns on Nov. 19 at Westport Library with a $30,000 prize pool, including $25,000 for the winner. Applicants must submit by June 12 (meeting criteria like a Connecticut association and pre-institutional funding) to join the contest.  06880

CULTURE NEWS

  • VFW Post 399 will host the Connecticut Grateful Dead All Stars featuring renowned saxophonist Crispin Cioe this Saturday, May 2 — doors open at 7 p.m. and the event starts at 8 p.m. at the waterfront venue on Riverside Avenue.  Westport Journal
  • Wynton Marsalis will perform in Westport on Sunday, June 28 at Levitt Pavilion. The event starts with a set by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra at 6 p.m. and continues with Marsalis leading the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra at 7.  06880

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Staples High School, junior Kaila Patel and sophomore Liam Harrison won the Teen Diversity Essay Contest last night at the library with their essays on the Declaration of Independence, earning $1,000 and $750 respectively. The contest — honoring America 250 — shows students linking history to community.  Westport Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont announced a plan on April 29 — the affordability fund will deliver $170M for schools and $100M for towns. Local leaders praised the measure as a vital lifeline for easing taxpayer burdens and addressing critical budget gaps.  The Hour
