  • Westport Library is inviting residents to share feedback through a 10-minute survey available online and at a computer kiosk in the Hub at 20 Jesup Road. The survey will help guide its strategic plan and gives participants a chance to win prizes (Apple AirPods, free drinks, Amazon gift cards, and pizza for teens) until May 31.  Westport Journal
  • In Westport today, Mrs. London’s café will change hands as New York group Maman takes over with a rumored final day on Mother’s Day—while a library survey is open until May 31 and a cancer research shred event runs Saturday May 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In additional local news, Staples High School will hold a soccer coach hearing Monday May 12, and a Friday dinner features Elvis and Neil Diamond music amid other art, sports, and volunteer events that mark a busy week in town.  06880

  • Westport designer Christian Siriano created dresses for celebrities including Lizzo, Bebe Rexha, and Tony winner Alex Newell for the Met Gala’s 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' on May 05 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City—he used modern designs that honored a classic tailored look and Black cultural influences—he later shared images of his work on Instagram.  CTPost

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday night at Coleytown Middle School, dozens of Westport parents pleaded with the Board of Education to adopt a bell-to-bell cellphone ban at Staples High School to give students uninterrupted class time—Superintendent Thomas Scarice said the Board will vote on the proposal either May 15 or June 5.   News 12 Connecticut
  • Western Connecticut State University will have a new president when Jesse M. Bernal, currently a vice president at Grand Valley State University, begins his role on July 11—his appointment follows a series of interim leaders and aims to enhance academic success and equity for students.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Representative Town Meeting approved $238,000 to design a new Parks and Recreation maintenance building—an early step in the town’s $40M Longshore Capital Improvement Plan, with plans for site analysis and permitting still in progress. Heated debate occurred as First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker and RTM member Dick Lowenstein clashed over the use of state land and potential cost savings.  Westport Journal
