COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members in Westport and across Fairfield County will volunteer on May 16 for an Epic Day of Service by local Rotary clubs with projects including Compo Beach Playground improvements, food and blood drives, a library sale and shelter garden work; the first 25 volunteers get a commemorative T-shirt.  Westport Journal
  • Westport Garden Club will host its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 9, on Jesup Green from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The 98-year tradition features over 1,000 perennials, native plants, garden gifts and local partners, with proceeds funding community gardens, educational programs and environmental efforts.  Westport Journal
  • Temple Israel expanded its campus on Tuesday by purchasing 6 Coleytown Road, adding 2 acres to its 6-acre site to support a growing membership and new clergy. Temple officials said planning is underway to create spaces for worship and learning.  06880

  • A new CT bill will suspend licenses for six months if drivers illegally pass school buses. Westport officials say the measure is under review by lawmakers and may boost student safety.  CTPost
  • Today, Westport leaders proposed a $1.3M plan for permanent lighting on fields — a move to boost community play areas — and further project details are pending.  CTPost
  • Connecticut lawmakers passed a bill that names UConn basketball star Sue Bird as a second state bird in March, joining the American robin in its long-held role. The measure now awaits the governor’s signature.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Westporters facing osteoarthritis pain who have not found relief with other treatments may request low-dose xrays therapy at Norwalk Hospital, a noninvasive option that calms swelling and stiffness + the six-session treatment is designed to fit busy schedules.  Westport Journal

  • Connecticut saw about 350 more home listings in April but 9% fewer sales, leaving buyers in a tight market & prompting competitive bidding in areas like Wilton, where an Old Farm Road home sold on May 4 for $355,000 above its list price after multiple offers.  The Hour
