COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Westport Dog Festival runs Sunday, May 17, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at Winslow Park and features competitions, kid activities, and pet vendors; Westport Country Playhouse will pay tribute to Judy Garland on June 17 while the Staples free Pops Concert is set for June 5 at Levitt Pavilion.  06880
  • Westport Farmers Market celebrated its 20th season opening day on Thursday at Imperial Avenue. Local vendors sold fresh food and more every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through November and funds went directly to local businesses.  News 12 Connecticut
  • Wheels2U (Westport's on-demand shuttle service) extended its midday service until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, allowing riders to travel to and from designated hubs including the Westport Library, Farmers’ Market, and Jesup Green. CULTURE NEWS

  • Clay Singer, a Westport native, stars in the immersive production Masquerade in an Off-Broadway setting where guests move room to room as the scenes unfold. The show features a strict dress code — guests must remain one foot from the actors as the iconic Phantom is brought to life.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Lamont approved legislation to form a working group to help Connecticut schools tackle antisemitism, after the ADL reported 22 school incidents in 2025 out of 126 statewide (a decrease from 2024) with the group expected to set recommendations by Jan. 1.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA forecasts that a 'super' El Niño may form later this year with odds rising to 90% by August and 93% by December, and the change could bring warmer summer days and a stormier winter for Westport (local conditions).  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state provided $173 million to boost school funding and allow towns flexibility to lower property taxes if spending criteria are met. Lawmakers fixed confusing bill language after towns raised concerns, ensuring the funds are used for education as intended—helping schools while giving towns a tax break option.  The Hour
  • Westport RTM approved $168.8M for the school district for 2026-2027 (a 4.98% increase covering operations, debt service, and private school aid) while also approving $495,615 to fill firefighter vacancies. The budget meeting addressed rising healthcare costs as a key driver.  Westport Journal
