  • Connecticut electric bills could near $300 this July if hot, humid weather drives up air-conditioning use despite improved efficiency. Gov. Lamont announced the public benefits charge will convert into a credit until September (offering limited relief), though higher fuel and delivery costs keep rates elevated.  The Hour

  • Staples students Elijah Falkenstein and Zander Bauer won the Ralph J. Monaco Memorial Award (each receiving $1,000) on May 7 for their work in civics education, celebrating their commitment to civic engagement.  Westport Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Kris Hrisovulos reached his 300th win on May 5, boosting Staples’ record to 12-3 + his team will play Wilton at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the FCIAC quarterfinals.  Westport Journal
  • On Friday, Staples rallied to defeat Fairfield Ludlowe 11-9 in Westport, with Cicero hitting two homers — one a grand slam — and Brill’s two-run homer clinching their comeback win.  Westport Journal
  • Staples girls golf team won on May 5 at Smith Richardson Golf Course against Fairfield Warde by scoring a season low 196 and claimed another win on May 7 at Richter Park over Danbury with a score of 197; the victories evened their record and set up home matches against Trumbull on May 13 and Greenwich later this week.  Westport Journal
  • Staples girls tennis ended the season with a 14 to 1 record and is the No. 2 seed for the FCIAC Tournament starting Wednesday. The team won four recent matches including 7 to 0 wins over St. Joseph and Westhill, with strong performances in singles and doubles.  Westport Journal
