- ➤ A weatherproof AED in Winslow Park was discovered working after years of neglect. Meanwhile, philanthropists Austin and Allison McChord will transform Manresa Island into a 125-acre park with trails and waterfront access starting next spring. 06880
- ➤ The Westport Dog Festival will be held at Winslow Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 17 and will feature competitions, police K9 presentations, kids’ activities, food trucks, and more — the event charges a cashless fee and benefits local nonprofits with a rain date set for May 31. - ➤ Westport is celebrating the 250th anniversary of Independence with events from a Tavern Cooking Class at Wakeman Town Farm to the opening of a new Earthplace birds home. - ➤ Staples girls lacrosse defeated visiting Masuk 13-6 on Saturday with key plays by Chloe Smith and Noelle Tybur, who each made significant contributions with goals and assists. The team, currently 6-6, will face Simsbury on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Westport Journal
- ➤ On Monday, May 11, the Connecticut high school baseball poll added Glastonbury at No.8 and Bethel at No.10—Bethel is the first Southwest Conference team in the top ten as Glastonbury advanced after a win over the Wreckers. - ➤ Connecticut high school lacrosse continues to grow as over 100 players have now committed to college programs, with nearly 50 joining Division I and local schools fueling the talent pool.
