  • The Westport-Weston Family YMCA will host the Extra Special Spring Bash on May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at 14 Allen Raymond Lane for teens aged 12 to 18 with physical or neuro-diverse needs. The event will feature a DJ, dancing, games, food, a photo booth and gift bags — a spring-themed wonderland with a lounge for parents to relax.  Westport Journal
  • Edward Karazin, Jr. is an Army veteran and Superior Court judge who has been named grand marshal of Westport’s Memorial Day parade. The parade begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 26 — he will lead the route and a ceremony will follow on Veterans Green — as the town honors those who served.  Westport Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A report from the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection showed crime against persons dropped by 2.6% on May 14, with property crime falling nearly 17% & crimes against society, including animal cruelty, dropping by 4.4% as part of a long-term trend of improvement.  News 12 Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Child care centers closed Wednesday as workers and parents rallied statewide for The Morning Without Child Care to urge state leaders to boost funding for affordable care and higher wages for educators. Rallies were held at the Government Center in Stamford and at sites in Norwalk, Bridgeport, and Stratford—organizers said the move was needed to address the ongoing crisis.  News 12 Connecticut

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont said he spoke with Mohegan Sun officials on May 14 about options to keep the Connecticut Sun in the state as the team’s owner begins exploring a possible sale. Lawmakers noted that if the sale leads to a relocation, limited public funds may be used to help keep the team — a move aimed at preserving local sports and tourism.  The Hour
