- ➤ Motorists should use caution tomorrow as the Bloomin’ Metric Bicycle Tour passes through eastern Westport and western Fairfield (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). Westport Police urge drivers to allow extra travel time and stay alert for a high volume of cyclists. Westport Journal
- ➤ Tomorrow, over 400 Westporters will gather at Saugatuck Elementary School for the 7th annual Day of Champions fundraiser benefiting Experience Camps for Grieving Children (honoring Alyson Luck, Nat Brogadir, and Slava Leykind). - ➤ Fairfield's Penfield Reef was named a Vertical Flight Heritage Site on Friday for hosting the world's first successful helicopter hoist water rescue in 1945, and a Black Hawk helicopter hovered above as a tribute provided by the Vertical Flight Society and Sikorsky (a Lockheed Martin company). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gas-powered leaf blowers are banned starting tomorrow through Oct. 15 (they may still be used on town-owned land, on properties larger than 20 acres, or for storm cleanup), while electric models remain allowed. - ➤ Governor Ned Lamont said flags were flown at half-staff Friday from sunrise to sunset to honor fallen peace officers on Peace Officers Memorial Day; state buildings and private entities joined the tribute across Connecticut. The Hour
- ➤ Connecticut Water filed a request for a 21% rate hike that would add about $15.54 to the average monthly bill if approved by state regulators — the change is set to take effect in early 2027. The move aims to fund upgrades to aging distribution infrastructure. The Hour

- ➤ On Friday, Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Manisha Juthani, M.D. urged residents to take common-sense precautions amid a hepatitis A investigation linked to imported fresh-frozen blood clams (concha negra) from Ecuador, noting that no confirmed link exists with locally harvested shellfish.
