CULTURE NEWS

  • Devon Gilfillian is set to perform his Time Will Tell Tour at the Levitt Pavilion, and the free outdoor concert enforces event-specific rules on seating, outside food, and safety. Attendees should review guidelines (BYO-lawn chair and clear aisles) before arriving.  06880

  • Westport’s 53rd annual Fine Arts Festival runs May 23–24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will showcase work by over 150 artists from North America – including a unique BMW painting activation by Staples High School art students.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Westport enforces alcohol rules at municipal beaches – drinking is allowed only at South Beach picnic area at Compo Beach with restrictions on container sizes, and a permit is required at other beaches.  The Hour
  • Lyman remains under siege as its mayor reports daily attacks and a constant need for funds from Westport due to supply line cuts + Westporters have already donated and can support further aid via a film documentary fundraiser scheduled for Monday, May 18 at Fairfield Theatre Company.  06880
  • Wakeman Town Farm is set to remove its unsafe barn — a long-awaited project — and build a safe, functional structure for storage and community use as it finalizes plans. Residents can support the effort at the Board of Finance meeting on Wednesday, May 20 or by email.  06880

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting Monday, May 18 Westport will use enhanced beach water testing at Compo Beach and Burying Hill. The new process will include extra samples and immediate resampling to lift closures faster if bacteria levels exceed safe limits, with results posted on district and town websites.  Westport Journal
  • Straus Family Creamery recalled lots of its organic ice cream after metal pieces were found, a move announced Thursday (May 14) that affects ice cream sold at Whole Foods, ShopRite, and other local stores; customers should throw away recalled products and can get a replacement voucher from the company website.  The Hour
  • Dr. George A. Kuchel, director of the UConn Center on Aging (UConn Health), explained that aging is a lifelong process and not something that begins at 65. He noted that healthy habits and integrated care can help counter myths about dementia and loneliness.  The Hour
