  • On Saturday, the Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Kickoff to Summer event at Compo Beach where local volunteers reopened the renovated playground with activities such as obstacle courses and food trucks. The event —despite chilly weather— aimed to offer a safer play area —focused on inclusivity for Westport children—.  Westport Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today on Veterans Green after the parade at about 10:30 a.m., a brief ceremony honors Westporters who served in World War II and later conflicts—an event inspired by a 1943 painting by local illustrator Stevan Dohanos that once hung near old Town Hall. The ceremony includes speeches, the playing of Taps—marks the tribute to those who sacrificed for our freedoms.  06880

SPORTS NEWS

  • Staples High boys tennis team advanced to the FCIAC championship after a 4-2 win over New Canaan on Saturday—they will face No. 1-ranked Greenwich at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Wilton High School. The Staples girls team was eliminated from the tournament after a 4-3 loss to Fairfield Ludlowe and will look to rebound in the state playoffs.  Westport Journal
  • Staples Boys Lacrosse came back strong after a loss to Darien by defeating Fairfield Ludlowe 16-2 in the FCIAC quarterfinal, with senior Tristan Schaefer scoring a career-high 7 goals and seniors Adam Udell and Will Fleming also leading the attack—Coach Will Koshansky praised the team's energy. The team will face Ridgefield in the semi-final on Tuesday, May 27th at 4:30 p.m. at Wilton High School.  Westport Local
