COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Westport community gardeners are proposing to relocate the gardens to a sunny, flat area at Burr Farms Field after losing their Long Lots space because of new school plans on Hyde Lane—committee leaders now await a meeting with Parks and Recreation for further discussion.  Westport Journal
  • Ted Horowitz shared a collection of photos from Memorial Day weekend that show marchers, parade-goers and veterans in our community. The images remind us of those who gave their lives to let us be here today (all photos are credited to Ted Horowitz).  06880
  • Organizers of Westport Library’s Big Spring Book Sale thanked donors, volunteers and patrons for a very successful indoor event—one that saw tens of thousands of donated books and raised over $200,000 for the library—and noted that the funds support job training and employment for adults with disabilities. The event, held last week at the library and Westport Book Shop, highlighted the community’s strong support for local initiatives.  Westport Journal

  • The Long Lots Elementary School project has been delayed for three years and now must meet tight state funding deadlines before June 30. Town meetings by town bodies and board reviews (34 days from now) will decide permits, financing, and other approvals.  06880
