- ➤ Yesterday, the Connecticut House passed a large housing bill that will move to the Senate, and more than 200 Westporters gathered on Jesup Green in solidarity with the Jewish community after recent tragic events—local news also reported the loss of a beloved tennis coach, an RTM meeting on school plans, a record milestone for transit rides, and upcoming events like a Dan Bikel concert, a children’s shop opening, and a comedy fundraiser on June 4. 06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Westport will use $1 million in state funds—matched by $1.1 million from the town and $619,846 from LoCIP—to replace the 95-year-old stone bridge over Deadman Brook as part of a project to improve safety along an accident-prone corridor. Construction will take place this summer to reopen the bridge before the new school year. Westport Journal
- ➤ Town officials were notified on May 16 that state departments merged and moved the funding deadline for the Long Lots Elementary School project from October to June 30 — forcing town boards to complete review steps by June 16 to secure the grant needed for the planned 2027 opening. - ➤ State entomologists say the long horned tick—first seen biting a child in Ridgefield in 2018—is now linked to a rise in HME cases, with 28 cases reported from 2019 to 2023 in Fairfield and New Haven counties.
