- ➤ Crews repaired downed overhead wires on Friday that had stranded 1,100 passengers on three trains on Thursday night—although there were some early delays on Saturday morning, Metro-North reported that trains were running on schedule by mid-morning. CTPost

- ➤ The Staples High music department moved Westport’s beloved Pops concert into the school auditorium to avoid a storm threat—setting up a new sound system and re-staging the performance for 200 musicians—resulting in a flawless show enjoyed by all. 06880
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Niche ranked Connecticut’s top 10 public elementary schools and found they are all in three school districts in Fairfield County—New Canaan, Greenwich and Westport. The list shows schools earning the highest grade, with Westport schools like King’s Highway, Long Lots and Coleytown among them. CTPost
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials said Connecticut’s bear problem worsened after the House passed a bill to study the issue, but the Senate did not vote before the session ended Wednesday. Governor Lamont advised residents to secure trash and feeders—an important step to help keep bears from becoming habituated. WFSB
- ➤ Town officials are planning meetings to discuss the Hamlet development and Long Lots School funding, with the Planning and Zoning Commission holding a public hearing on Hamlet and voting on a new report for Long Lots School from Monday, June 9 to Thursday, June 12. The Hamlet hearing phase will close by June 18 and town boards must finish approvals before a June 30 state funding deadline — critical steps to move these projects forward. Westport Journal
