  • Old Mill Grocery & Deli's owner Soundview Empowerment Alliance is fighting three lawsuits filed by neighbors who oppose its outdoor tables, gelato cart and wine and beer license—legal challenges that could overturn local Planning & Zoning Commission decisions. The group is using signs, stickers and a digital petition via QR code to show community support—defending the shop's long-held traditions and its mission to provide job training for people with disabilities.  06880

  • At 2:40 a.m. this morning, Westport Police arrested a 52-year-old man hiding inside a Riverside Avenue home after a homeowner spotted him via his Blink security system + he was found with stolen jewelry, charged with burglary and larceny, and held on a $100,000 bond.  06880
  • A Westport homeowner used his Blink security camera to show police an unknown man in his Riverside Avenue home early Saturday morning, leading officers to find the 52-year-old suspect hiding in a closet with stolen jewelry—he now faces charges for burglary and larceny, is held on a $100,000 bond, and is set for a court appearance on Monday.  NBC Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A petition to force a referendum on Long Lots Elementary School funding will require 2,015 signatures—10 percent of the 20,151 voters registered in the last election—to trigger a vote by June 26.  Westport Journal

  • As of December 2024, Connecticut had 60,489 electric vehicles—a 2,481% increase since 2014—with Westport among the top towns showing over 10% EV registration. The state offers up to $4,500 in credits for eligible vehicles, though a proposed federal bill may cut EV tax credits.  06880

  • Connecticut municipalities are opening temporary cooling centers as a heat wave is expected to push temperatures near 100 degrees. Gov.
