  • The Westport Farmers’ Market Young Shoots photo contest invites children aged 5 to 18 to take photos every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Imperial Avenue parking lot until August 8 — local artists will judge entries for a show on August 20 at Gilbertie’s Herbs & Garden Center. Staples High School named Liam Witham as its new boys soccer head coach — Westport Garden Club volunteers enhanced the Compo Beach entrance ahead of the 06880 blog party on July 17.  06880

CRIME NEWS

  • Roy Saldana, a 35-year-old contractor from Bridgeport, was arrested on first-degree larceny after he allegedly pocketed $20,500 for work he did not finish on a Westport home—he was released on $20,000 bond and will appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 8.  Westport Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Candace Bushnell will perform her hit show True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City at Westport Country Playhouse on July 9 at 8 p.m. The event offers local fans a chance to see the bestselling author who inspired Carrie Bradshaw take the stage.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Long Lots School Building Committee in Westport selected Macchi Engineers + a Hartford-based firm to conduct a structural review for the new 127,000 square foot school at 13 Hyde Lane, and groundwork is set to begin this summer to prepare for upcoming construction. The project will hire up to 30 subcontractors over the next 20 months and must receive state approval before contracts are put to bid.  Westport Journal
  • Westport’s school board awarded 4% raises to 62 non-union school employees, but did not include Superintendent Thomas Scarice who will receive his raise after his review and contract update—board members said the delay is common and his increase will apply retroactively in the new fiscal year.  Westport Journal
