GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a rule requiring a 10-foot gap between a house and its accessory dwelling unit—an effort to preserve neighborhood scale and lower fire risk. The rule applies to detached ADUs that have become popular since they were allowed in 2021. Westport Journal
- ➤ The US Coast Guard is patrolling local waters for the next 72 hours this Independence Day weekend to remind boaters to check safety rules as a new state law will suspend both boating & driver licenses for BUI starting in October. Last year, several boating incidents involved alcohol and led to injuries and deaths. WFSB
- ➤ Gov. Lamont signed a new budget on June 30 that set strict limits on bottle and can redemptions to curb cross-border fraud—redemption centers can now process only 5,000 returns a day and retailers are capped at 240 items, with proof of Connecticut residency required for more than 2,500 items while law enforcement may fine violators $50 to $500.
