  • Avangrid has promoted Jose Antonio Miranda to chief executive officer and Kimberly Harriman to deputy chief executive officer after former CEO Pedro Azagra left on June 24 to join Iberdrola Group. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Congress passed a nearly 900-page federal tax and spending bill last week that offers some Connecticut taxpayers benefits like an increased SALT deduction — while its cuts to Medicaid and SNAP have raised concerns among local officials and economists. Analysts noted the plan has both 'Easter eggs' and 'Trojan horses' that could lead to higher deficits and increased borrowing costs.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Russell Oost-Lievense, Staples High School boys soccer coach, filed a lawsuit in Stamford Superior Court after his May appeal hearing, alleging that his due process rights were violated during the decision not to renew his contract. He seeks damages for lost income, reputational harm and emotional distress — and he wants a fair review of the non-renewal decision.  06880

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Westport Board of Selectwomen will consider a proposal to reduce parking limits from three hours to two on Main, Elm, and Bay streets, Church Lane and Jessup Road tomorrow morning. The change follows a downtown planning recommendation aimed at increasing turnover—while some local businesses worry two hours may not give shoppers enough time.  News 12 Connecticut
  • On Monday, July 7th, the Planning and Zoning Commission met at 6 p.m. via Zoom — the meeting marked the start of a 65-day period to decide the fate of the Hamlet project after public input closed. Developers from ROAN Ventures said they will file a pre-application for an 8—30g housing plan offering over 500 units if Hamlet does not gain approval.  06880
