  • Westport’s Don Memo serves its last meal on August 16 and will reopen in early September as Massi Co. with chef Zach Hinman offering fresh Italian-American dishes, while the Merritt Parkway exits are renumbered to 20 and 21 beginning July 28—local updates also include a full slate of summer Parks & Rec programs, concert events, and notable community notices.  06880

CRIME NEWS

  • Svetlana Dali, who was convicted in May for sneaking onto a Delta flight from JFK to Paris, is under investigation by Connecticut State Police after she reportedly slipped past security at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks two days before her flight.  The Hour
  • Norwalk police arrested Robert Pekar, 38, from Westport—he is accused of stealing about $86,000 in construction equipment from a site on Connecticut Avenue in May and faces charges of first degree larceny and larceny of a motor vehicle with a $100,000 bond and a court appearance on July 23.  WFSB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Westport’s Historic District Commission will hold a second public hearing in August on a proposal to designate six town-owned bridges as historic properties—town officials did not provide remarks at the previous hearing, prompting this action.  Westport Journal
  • Governor Ned Lamont urged Connecticut residents to sign up for CT Alerts—Connecticut’s emergency notification system—and to prepare emergency kits and evacuation plans to face dangerous weather, pointing to recent floods in Texas and the Naugatuck Valley as a warning of climate change. This call for preparation comes as state agencies work closely with local governments to ready their emergency response systems.  WFSB
