  • Westport is set to host the 2nd annual Soundview Summer Stroll next Sunday, July 27, when Soundview Drive—the Compo Beach exit road—will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free event offers live music, kids activities, games, a photo booth, face painting and food from Old Mill Grocery & Deli.  06880
  • The Connecticut Humane Society is building a new Pet Resource Center on Danbury Road in Wilton to replace the long-running Westport shelter. The nearly finished 15,000-square-foot center—offering low-fee veterinary care, an adoption clinic, and a pet food pantry—will open at the end of August and serve pet owners across Fairfield County.  CTPost
  • Amy Schneider warned locals to avoid the Westport Library patio as spotted lanternflies swarmed there while painted lifeguard chairs at Sherwood Island state park—created by Friends of Sherwood Island’s Nature Center—sparked interest. A demolition crew turned a house on Pond Edge Road to rubble yesterday, town operations said unfinished wiring downtown may later support security cameras, and Wakeman Town Farm will hold its final Pizza on the Patio event on August 27.  06880

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CT’s draft Wildlife Action Plan, open for public comment until July 27, calls for conserving over 1,000 species including the gray fox, blue-winged warbler, Jefferson salamander and bog turtle which face threats from habitat loss and climate change. The plan, developed with input from state agencies and conservation groups—using improved acoustic monitoring—will guide future funding and actions once approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  The Hour

  • Former Yale star Matt Brandau scored four fourth-quarter goals to lead the Maryland Whipsnakes to a 10-7 win over the Philadelphia Waterdogs on Saturday at Fairfield University—he said playing for his new team felt like home—while local fans enjoyed a strong lacrosse match.  CTPost
