ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Data from the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner shows 46 accidental drowning deaths in Connecticut from March 28, 2021 to July 13, with recent incidents involving an 18-year-old in Danbury on July 4 and another in New Milford this month. The drownings occurred amid rising flash flood warnings nationwide—officials continue to monitor water safety risks.  CTPost

  • Westport recently enjoyed Dark Star Orchestra’s ticketed show at Levitt Pavilion while Westport Country Playhouse hosted its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser on July 21 to support its artistic and educational programs—adding to a busy summer schedule. José Feliciano will headline a Summer Jam fundraiser on Aug 15 at the Playhouse to benefit the Church of the Assumption’s 150th anniversary campaign.  Westport Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WalletHub revealed on Monday its ranking of state school systems—placing Connecticut 2nd based on metrics such as math and reading scores, pupil-teacher ratio and ACT performance. Massachusetts ranked highest while Alaska, Oklahoma and New Mexico were rated as having the lowest systems.  WFSB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers said Connecticut families paid higher prices from federal tariffs — a Yale Budget Lab analysis estimated tariffs raised consumer prices by 1.8% and cut household incomes by about $2,400. Sen. Blumenthal and Att. Gen. Tong held a press conference Monday morning — urging the FTC to review the tariffs’ impact on rising costs.  WFSB
  • At last Monday's meeting, the Planning & Zoning Commission voted 4-3 against approving the Hamlet project near the Westport train station—raising concerns about traffic, parking, waterfront access, building density and design. A final vote is set for Monday, July 28, when commissioners will choose between denying the development or moving forward with a promised 500-unit affordable housing project—an alternative offered by ROAN Ventures.  06880

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Home sales went up in more than 90 towns in Connecticut in the first half of 2025 but dropped or stayed the same in about 70 towns, with buyers still facing high prices and few homes. Stamford sales rose 11% while Greenwich sales dropped 4% — showing a market that is strong for sellers and hard for buyers — with median home prices up by at least 10% from last year.  CTPost
