BUSINESS NEWS

  • Delamar Westport began its soft opening on July 1 and guests viewed its lobby, which was designed by Project Runway winner Christian Siriano. The hotel at 1595 Post Road East will have 86 guest rooms, a Mediterranean restaurant and three Siriano Suites—completion is expected by late summer.  The Hour
  • Gruel Britannia, a restaurant with British charm, opened Monday at 161 Cross Highway in the former Porch at Christies building, offering breakfast, lunch, tea service, and a Tuck Shop—where local Anglophiles pick up snacks from early morning until 4 p.m. Founders Karen Hubrich and Scott Rochlin, long-time Westport residents and experienced restaurateurs, plan community events and will add dinner service in September—featuring British prime rib on Sundays.  Westport Journal
  • Wegmans opened its 92,000‑square‑foot store at 675 Connecticut Ave in Norwalk at 9 a.m. on July 23 — the project required consolidating five properties and hiring over 500 local workers — ending the grocer’s decades-long search for a location in Connecticut.  CT Insider
  • Casa Me in Westport welcomed top chef Diego Negri—known for Michelin stars at Marea and Eleven Eleven—and he used his ten years of work abroad to bring a fresh coastal Italian menu to the restaurant.  Westport Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A report from Connecticut Voices for Children found that Connecticut still has fewer payroll jobs than its peak in March 2008 and faces high wage inequality that makes life more expensive for many workers. The report recommended measures such as indexing the personal income tax to inflation + limiting non-compete agreements to boost wage fairness and support economic recovery.  CT Insider

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Thirteen-year-old Waylon Page of Haddam helped inspire House Bill 7200 that will require bleeding-control kits and training in all public buildings after he survived a life-threatening bleed from a rare blood disorder. His testimony at the Capitol during a May 7 demonstration helped state lawmakers move the new law forward (House Bill 7200).  WFSB

  • On July 20, Sporting CT won the Women’s Premier Soccer League Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma with a 4-0 win over the defending champion California Storm — marking their first season with a strong 9-1 record.
