Local residents reported a coyote sighting on Minute Man Hill along with Staples High School’s 30th reunion and a VFW flagpole dedication — while the community also mourns longtime resident Richard 'Chick' Hayden, who died July 5 in New Hampshire.  06880

  • Netflix released Happy Gilmore 2 on July 25 and eagle-eyed viewers noted hints of Connecticut, such as local news trucks and a Waterbury Police logo on Gilmore’s mug shot—details that tie the film to the state. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ned Lamont unveiled a new Pizza State vanity license plate on Monday — the proceeds benefit Foodshare as local food banks face federal funding cuts and rising hunger. The $134 plate is available on Foodshare’s website as part of a broader effort to promote Connecticut pizza and support community food security.  CTPost
  • Connecticut drivers can purchase a new pizza plate — a 'pizza state' option — that celebrates the state's claim as a pizza capital and supports Connecticut Foodshare's drive to reduce food insecurity, with the plate available since Monday.  WFSB
  • Today, the Westport Planning and Zoning Commission voted to deny the Hamlet at Saugatuck proposal because it did not meet design, parking, public access and traffic rules set in the 2022 text amendment. Town attorney Ira Bloom said he must defend the decision in court while developers plan to seek an 8-30g application — a move that may lead to a lawsuit.  Westport Journal
