EDUCATION NEWS

  • WalletHub ranked early education systems across 50 states and DC using 12 metrics and Connecticut placed 11th overall—its quality rank was 4th while its education access and economic support ranked 21st and 40th. The ranking compared measures like pre-K program availability and spending to help parents identify states with strong early education programs.  WFSB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Connecticut had a heat advisory as temperatures hit 96 degrees with heat indexes up to 103, which threatened to break a record set 92 years ago. Today, the air remains very humid with temperatures in the low to mid-90s while a cold front may bring storms with strong winds & lightning this afternoon.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The town’s planning and zoning board voted down the Hamlet at Saugatuck project on Monday night—rejecting plans for hotels, apartments, shops and restaurants on a waterfront site covering 7 acres near the train station. The vote of 4 to 3 shows a split decision on future development in Westport.  News 12 Connecticut
  • Attorney General William Tong joined a lawsuit filed Tuesday by a coalition of 22 states — including Connecticut — to fight the USDA’s demand for personal data on SNAP recipients. The suit argues that sharing sensitive details of about 490,000 Connecticut users violates federal privacy laws and risks delaying $79 million in SNAP funding.  WFSB
  • Today, the MTA will vote on a plan to raise Metro-North fares for Connecticut by 10 percent—5 percent on September 1 and 5 percent on July 1, 2026—to keep train service running amid an $11 million funding gap.  The Hour
